Rocket Through the Wilderness
We’re starting to make some plans here at Mission Control for year two of Ellie on Planet X, and those plans include doing a little advertising. I thought I’d share this fun ad I worked up with a little animated Ellie and Balloon Boy going on. The line “Rocket Through the Wilderness” is a take-off of a line from the B-52s song Roam (“Rock It Through the Wilderness”). It’s kind of the unofficial theme song for our family friendly comic.
Delightful image, and you couldn’t have picked a better lyrical inspiration. Just don’t get carried away with the B-52-ification. No Rock Lobsters on Planet X.
What about a Bikini Whale?
I like it!
Thanks Tom!
Haven’t I seen that slogan on some of the posters or other stuff that dates back to the original launch 38 years ago? Seems like the B-52s must have based their line on the mission slogan! (and they couldn’t have picked a better inspiration!)
Yeah, that’s what I meant!
Gorgeous ad James! I’m looking at making some new Project Wonderful ads myself soon. I may just have to get in touch for a friendly consult.
Thanks Joel. I haven’t done any advertising at all before, so I might hit you up for a consult as well.
Hi James! Just discovered Ellie, and I LOVE it! It makes me feel a great sense of nostalgia for some of the books and comics of my youth (Calvin & Hobbes, Dr. Seuss, Winnie the Pooh, Richard Scarry, etc) but with a totally unique story. What a well thought-out world you’ve developed, populated by fabulously eccentric characters and interesting flora and fauna.
Might I make the suggestion that when you create the ads above, you make a miniature banner-sized version? That people could throw up on their bloggers or wordpresses (either in posts or on sidebars) with a link to the comic? It might help you drive traffic, and people always love having claim to ‘discovering’ awesome things on the internet before anyone else! 😉
Either way, I’ll definitely keep reading! 🙂
Wow, Beth! Thank you!
I’d have to say that all of those books and comics you mentioned had some influence on me.
I’m putting together a page of extra stuff that will include some banners, as well as some other goodies when I think them up as I go along. I’ll post it in the blog and have a link in the menu bar at the top of the page when it’s finished.
Thanks again for reading!
