Muffin Tops
Here’s an extra special, superific comic six times the normal size! It was just supposed to be a double and then kinda got away from me.
I’m going to be taking a short break for a couple of weeks. I have a children’s book seminar coming up in a week and a half that I need to prepare for, plus some other stuff. Unfortunately, this was kind of a last minute decision so I don’t have any guest cartoonists lined up to entertain you. But I’ll be posting to the blog on a regular basis and I’ll get some sketchbook drawings in there to keep my posts Ellie related. Ellie will resume transmitting on Monday, October 3rd.
Don’t forget, you can still follow Ellie on her RSS feed and on Facebook too so you’ll be reminded when she returns. Thanks for reading! I appreciate every one of you!
Jim at Mission Control
Dude. This page man. THIS PAGE. Everything about it is wonderful.
Thanks Figgs. I’m especially pleased with the sock. And that I rhymed McGuffin.
I particularly love the skull.
I love this! And what a huuuuuge panel! 🙂
Thanks Rob! Buy the way, I’m enamoured with Chaotic.
I’m late — and somewhat flattened — for a very important date. Strangely enough, I do not think that Muffin looks much like a rabbit.
If we’re going to have to wait for more Ellie goodness, it’s nice to have a super-comic to look at while we wait.
The wait’ll be over like “that (insert finger snap)”.
Wow! I am blown away! Fantastic panel!
And a really funny punchline!! 🙂
Thanks Carsten! My goal is to blow you away. 😀
Very nice comic indeed! I shall miss it whilst you are away. 🙂
I’ll be back before you know it. And thanks Minifig3D!
Wow, Jim! I always get excited when I see one of your full pagers, but you have really knocked this one out of the park. Perfectly executed and just tons of fun. The rhyming and the weaving down below is just awesome. Great work!
People are out in San Francisco Bay in their kayaks waiting to fish it out of the water. Thanks Tom. I’ll eventually have to figure how it’s gonna work when I inevitably print this in a book.
No, no, no, Muffin! You broke the rhyme and the meter!
But luckily not his back (seeing as he’s boneless).
Great work, I and can’t wait to see where things pick up! Have a fun, productive few weeks!
I’m guessing we won’t see you at Fanfare?
Thanks Chad! Yeah, my children’s book thing and Fanfare fell on the same days, so I had to choose. I figured there’d be more cons to do in the future, but the seminar only comes around once a year. I’m going to make a concerted effort to starting my con appearances at SPACE next year in Columbus.
Cool! Yeah, I’m hoping to make it to SPACE, but it’ll depend on some other cons in the spring–MoCCA, TCAF are all crammed in to just a few weeks! Have a great time at the seminar!
Honest to goodness, that is pure awesome. You have to make posters!!!!
I was thinking the same thing. This needs to be a poster. That would solve the problem of how to have it printed in your book. You could have it folded up and included free in the book itself.
Oh, and add me to the list of people blown away by this Ellie installment. Great job, Jim! Hurry back.
Thanks Brian and John. I have to think about this as a poster though. I’m not sure it stands alone outside the storyline it’s in. When I do a book though, I made the comic so it could be split into three parts. Don’t know if that’s the best solution, but it’s an option. We’re quite a ways away from a book though. 🙂
Terrific panel Anderson. I’ll be here when Ellie comes back, but I will miss her!!
Thanks Sue! I’m sorry you’ll miss her, but it lets me know I’m doing something right!
EXCELLENT! Art, writing,…this was a fun one!
Thanks JDS. This was a lot of fun to do too. The thesaurus and rhyming dictionary were working overtime.
Anderson you have always done something right with your comics, even in high school!!
Awwwww…
Ugh, this is beautiful. I just joined up in webcomics.com and read the article where they did the “gag hot seat.” and I loved your art.
But to go from being curious about the art, to seeing this page? blown away. Its awesome. Bookmarked
Thanks Peter! I’m always amazed at the talent I find on Webcomics.com. I’ll be checking in on your comic-making progress!
This one reminds me of my childhood drawings. I was obsessed with underground cutaway details with rabbits and ants. This comic will definitely last me until the next one. I love that the sock and the dino head are around the same geological period.
I had a moment in my childhood when I was obsessed with drawing cutaway tunnels populated by early mammals stealing hundreds of eggs from dinosaurs. So I’m right there with you.
And remember, we’re on a different planet. No dinosaurs here, but some other possibly extinct fauna. The sock I have no explanation for.
Maybe it’s the fossil of some ancient Xian animal with a sock-shaped skeleton? Awesome strip – if you absolutely have to take a break, this is the way to do it: knock their socks off before you go! Hey, maybe that’s where the sock came from?!
If that’s where the sock came from, then there’s bound to be several more. I have an entire drawer filled with socks that are missing a mate. I’m thinking of doing what Stephen Silver suggests: throw them all out and just buy a couple dozen of the same socks. You’ll never have a mismatch again.
I tried that – there’s never a mismatch any more, but there’s always an odd number of socks left. Apparently the first one disappears on its own, and then after that they disappear in pairs. I’ve given up trying to outsmart the socks.
Did dinosaurs wear socks? I think the answer is clear.
I’m convinced that dinosaurs had some kind of sock centered culture we’re only on the cusp of discovering.
Holy *^%$#!! That was amazing. You have outdone your self. How long did it take you to create this beautiful piece and when is the book coming out. Seriously stunning.
Thanks a ton Frank. If I venture a guess, it probably took six or seven hours maybe? It’s not as complicated as it might look. And I’m sure a book is well off in the future yet.
Wow, that’s ridiculous, Jim. I don’t know how you do it. The Ellie book is a must buy for everyone.
I never get any sleep. Not recommended.
Only 3 more days left! Hooray! (Still seems like a long time, though.)
Wheeeee! 😀 And the critters in the other burrow are like, “Those neighbors again. 😐 ” XD
