Something For Muffin
I made the mistake of popping Pixar’s UP into the DVD player while preparing today’s transmission. I just meant to have it on as background noise while I drew but several times caught myself getting sucked in. It’s such a wonderfully written film, especially the silent sequence near the beginning showing the young married couple growing old happily together despite the downturns life throws at them.
I read on Pixar artist Ronnie Del Carmen’s blog that the character Ellie in Up is among the studio staff’s favorite because she represents the spirit of adventure that is one of the themes of the movie. I can only hope that our Ellie here aspires to that same spirit.
Thanks Pixar!
“you know, for science” – love that 😀 Yeah, I’m not surprised they love Ellie of there (and well, the name, too!) Up is such a wonderful movie, and the opening sequence is just pure genius and one of the best openings ever. My wife cannot get through it without bawling her head off. I love it.
I cried like a baby during that opening sequence and I haven’t watched up since I saw it in the theater because its too darn sad…one of Pixar’s best, but oh so sad…
Great strip BTW! That punchline is a knockout!
Agreed, checkeredman. I cry everytime I see that. I try not to watch the opening anymore. I remember the first time I saw it I said, “You don’t *start* a movie like that!” I was upset that no one told me to bring tissues.
The emphasis on the word “him” in the second panel kind of threw me off at first. It somehow made me think Jeff was suggesting that Ellie should gift-wrap Muffin and give him to someone as a present.
Other than that, lovely as usual!
Oh, I just re-read it, Adrian, and now I see what you mean. Well, rats. Though maybe someone would like a Muffin for a gift.
Great strip again Anderson!! Sorry but if you hadn’t hung around with Bob and Wright during HS I’d be able to call you Jim but just can’t do that. I always cry during the opening sequence in UP, my daughter just shakes her head at me, but what do you expect from a teenager?
I can understand you geting caught in the movie as I always do whenever its on.
Thanks for the comments everyone. And yeah, tears were rolling down my face. I’m a big softy.
Very funny. Great dialogue and expressions. Really good.
Thanks, as always, Frank!
This is a real good one. One of my faves so far. Nice balance of words, pics, rhythm and laughs.
Thanks for all the comments, Paul. Being as close to the work as I am I usually can’t tell if I’ve hit it or not. It’s a bonus when I can get some good feedback!
