Makin’ Logos
I’m working at updating Ellie’s logo. It’s pretty close to what we already have up there at the top of the page, but I wanted to change the “X”. So here’s what we have so far.
And here’s a look into the process:

And here’s a look into the process:
Changing the “X” for contrast is probably a good idea. At first glance I like the one on top most because its the most compact and could be easily applied to other products like book covers, toy packaging or a television screen. The logo by itself could fit neatly in the left hand corner of the site.
As a “banner” for the site, the second one would probably work best. The bounce in “Ellie” is enough to let me know its lighthearted and fun, while the third option has an curve that makes me think that the ends are going to fall off into the abyss below.
Number 4 just takes up too much space.
I like the top one. I think it looks more natural than the other spread out ones.
I’m with Mariah on that one. The top variant looks more homogeneous and will probably prove to be the most versatile!
Ditto – top one reads the best as a whole. Great job!
I’d use the bottom one when you have a tall space, and the 2nd one when you have a wide space.
I like the top one for compact spaces, and the middle one for wide spaces. But then anything you do is – as my grandfather used to say – “not half bad” (his highest compliment).
I’ll take “not half bad” any day!
I’d say that Erik Johnson hit the nail on the head.
I vote for the fourth one! Nothing says “on” like good positioning.
The third one seems to say more “Ellie goes-all-the-way-over-to Planet X” and the top one, “Ellie takes over planet X”
Thanks for the input, everyone. That top one was going to be my all-around logo, and the rest would be used depending on what I need. Of course, as Im already discovering, sometimes you need to make special versions for special circumstances.
These are great! I like numbers 1 and 3 best.
