There’s a bit of a reference to the Mars lander missions here, in which the mission specialists named every single rock in sight of the landing site. Here’s a list of them at Wikipedia. No Buffalo Joe though.

Until the last panel, I though it was things like “pumice” and “sedimentus minima” but the explanation definitely adds to it.
