I love this drawing Joe Foo did to advertise Desmond’s Comic coming off from its hiatus. Awesome Ellie, Joe!

Ellie reader Richard John Hunt sent me this little Jeff from his sketchbook:
This makes me happy too! Thanks Richard!
And take a look at Richard’s Deviant Art page. He’s got some great looking stuff there (That first one made milk come out of my nose).
Today’s amazing fan art is courtesy of Wouter Goedkoop, creator of the fantastic sci-fi comic The Adventures of Cpt Wayne!
Wouter’s comic is just so full of slickness and color. It makes the future look like it did back when everyone thought it would be shiny and where everything glows. And now he’s brought that same look to Ellie. Check out that cool conical skirt and the beefy treads that look like they could go anywhere!
Make sure you check out his strip for some good sci-fi fun!
Muffin gets some love from Jules Faulkner, creator of one of my favorite webcomics, Promises Promises! It’s a hilarious strip about exercise and eating right and other things I don’t like to do, although since I started yoga I can relate. Go read it! It’s great!
And thanks, Jules!
One of the cool things about going to events like Kids Read Comics is all the great people you get to meet. My neighbor right across the street from my table was the incredible Joshua Buchanan. Check out his website for his comic The Rocket and tons of other great stuff!
Here’s a sketch of Ellie that he surprised me with. I think this is the brand new updated model for the 21st century. She’s looking pretty slick. Thanks Joshua!
Rounding out our three week guest comic cavalcade is today’s strip by Denver Brubaker, writer and drawer of Tales of a Checkered Man! For those not in the know, TOACM is a cross between a Philip Marlowe P.I. story and Batman, kinda, but funny and touching and full of incredible artwork. I’ve thought Denver was an amazing cartoonist and writer when I met him a few years back (he used to live nearby Ellie Mission Control), but over those last few years he’s just skyrocketed. Just take a look through his archive, as well as the huge number of sketchcards he’s put out recently in his store. And I can’t forget to mention that soon you’ll be able to get the Tales of a Checkered Man in book form too!
Don’t forget, I’m coming back from my self imposed exile/working vacation on Monday! I hope I can match up to the fantastically talented folks who’ve been sitting in for me. Thanks again to Don Ahé, Paul Fricke, Christopher Baldwin, Jay Fosgitt, Tom Dell’Aringa, and Denver Brubaker. You guys amaze me!
Sean McLean, who creates the comic Underwhelmed, as well as another called Loop (how do you find the time?), sent along his fantastic take on Ellie and Jeff. I just recently started checking out his archive of strips. It’s huge. I like the way he creatively breaks the fourth wall on occasion. Fun stuff! Oh, and he put together a great video of his process for creating this illustration. Check it out here. Thanks, Sean!
Recently I contributed to this piece that a bunch of us cartoonists made as a sendoff to Tom Dell’Aringa’s fantastic comic Marooned, which will be winding up in the next few months.
My contribution was the little pink Martian girl, Ril. Click on the pic above to go to Tom’s site and see a great big version in all it’s glory, featuring Denver Brubaker, Eddie Pittman, Eric Orchard, Jeff Couturier, Wouter F. Goedkoop, Steve Ogden, and Vince Dorse!
