Check out this awesome Christmas card that Josh Buchanan worked up featuring Michigan based cartoonists! He’s got his character The Rocket, Rob Worley’s Scratch from Scratch 9, Jerzy Drozd’s Jerad from the Front, Jesse Hughes’ Cosmicat, Mike Roll’s Apooka, Jay Fosgitt’s Bodie Troll, Dave Woodward and Chris Sopsich’s Gordie Gnomo, Joe Foo’s Desmond, Ben Hatke’s Zita the Space Girl, and our l’il ol’ Ellie down there on the bottom!
You can find out more about Josh’s comic The Rocket, along with his other projects, right here! Click the pic to bigafy.
I love this drawing Joe Foo did to advertise Desmond’s Comic coming off from its hiatus. Awesome Ellie, Joe!
Here’s a little chart I put together featuring the skulls of some of Planet X’s inhabitants. Not everybody we’ve encountered is represented since they don’t all have brain helmets.
Bonus: we get to find out Ernie’s species name! Click the pics to bigafy . . .
Here’s a little sketch of the Jungle Oasis on Planet X where Jeff and Muffin make their homes. It looks different here than what you’ve seen in the comics as I’ve been imagining it being more of a coral reef kind of place lately, with several levels and nooks and crannies. Maybe we’ll see it show up like this in the future!
Ellie reader Richard John Hunt sent me this little Jeff from his sketchbook:
This makes me happy too! Thanks Richard!
And take a look at Richard’s Deviant Art page. He’s got some great looking stuff there (That first one made milk come out of my nose).
Just as promised, here’s the best versions of Ellie from the past year. These’ll come in handy when I want to draw her a certain way – I can check and see if I already did. Plus it makes for some good inspiration!
One quick note: The Strang Institute Mission Control will be closing down for the rest of the year after this Thursday. Sorry to spring that on everyone, but there’s some big projects that need tending to and they’re going to require all of our resources to tackle. But check back during the break as I’ll still be posting to the blog. So no frowning! We still have one more comic this week and it’s a special one. For many reasons!
I have a lot of fun drawing Jeff every week, but sometimes he doesn’t come out exactly like I want him to.
He’s got some weird anatomy. Sometimes he’s like an octopus. Sometimes he’s like a seal. Sometimes he’s four-legged and sometimes he has hands that appear in the middle of his chest for no reason. Sometimes he’s about two heads tall (his ideal height, where I’m concerned), but I’ve seen him stretch a little taller and then he looks a little strange to me.
So I picked out what I thought were the best versions of him from throughout the year and made a page I can look at while I’m drawing him. And apparently a lot of those best drawings of Jeff are when he’s eating sandwiches.
I’ll do one of these for Ellie and Muffin too, and maybe for some of the other characters too. I’ll share them when I do!

I’ve got a few comic friends of mine who are making some new things for you to enjoy. First, Bruce Gerlach along with Kevin Minor have debuted their comic on the web, Stoopid Stuf! It’s a one paneler in the Far Side tradition.
Next, good friend Tom Dell’Aringa, who just finished up the five year space saga Marooned, introduces a new short story during future wartime called The Messenger! Tom’s a great storyteller and this one’s a little treat to keep us happy until his next big project is revealed. Check it out. And find more of his comics at his new hub, Pixelmech.com!
