Last month our resident alien expert, Peanut, showed you the cover of the March issue of Awesome Science Journal that featured an interview with her.
Now here’s the interview! I was going to post this up above in with the comics, but the text was mighty small to read. Click on the pic below to big-a-fy.
It’s been nearly a whole year since we added the character profiles to the site, so we thought now would be a good time to update the artwork as it appears in The Mission listing in the menu bar up top. Especially seeing as our renditions of our heroes look a bit different now than they did back then. Just take a look at this strip from a year ago and compare to the art below.
One of our resolutions for the new year is to concentrate more on keeping Ellie, Jeff, and Muffin consitent looking. We’ve got a formula for drawing them the same every time and have been working to simplify their designs. So look for that coming up along with some other subtle (and maybe not-so-subtle) changes. And we’ll be cluing you all in on our plans for 2012 as well. Stay tuned!
Before we got a good look at Muffin in Ellie’s transmissions, we had to take a guess at what he might look like from a few blurry photos.
Here’s a random page from one of my sketchbooks. There’s some Jeffs, Ellies, and Muffins in there, plus a couple of David Lettermans and a Queen! Enjoy!
Nothing to report today, but here’s a sketch of our three heroes. Note that I didn’t have their anatomy quite right yet when I drew this.
To our surprise here at Mission Control, Ellie made an attempt to film herself, Jeff, and Muffin performing for the camera (a tiny one that she can set up remotely). Press the buttons on the control panel below to see what antics transpired eight light years away!
Obviously Ellie and Jeff were inspired to strut their stuff by the dance sequence in A Charlie Brown Christmas.
The music behind Ellie is Linus and Lucy by Vince Guaraldi, which was introduced to television audiences during the very same Christmas special.
The music behind Jeff is Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt & The Foggy Mountain Boys. For those not in the know, Flatt and Scruggs recorded the theme to the Beverly Hillbillies.
The music behind Muffin is Baby Elephant Walk, written by Henry Mancini for the film Hatari, and performed here by Lawrence Welk and his Orchestra.
Jason Frazer, creator of the comic Twisted Musings, and I had us a little fan art swap. I drew his character Billy from his newest comic of the same name that starts June 11, and in exchange he sent me this awesome depiction of the Planet X cast so far. This has everything! The Jungle Oasis, Jeff’s house, Balloon Boy…and Jeff, Ellie, and Muffin, who all look awfully calm in the presence of Mr. Wallowmuck. So go check out Jason’s wonderful comic Twisted Musings while waiting for his new strip, Billy, to begin.
