It’s a busy week coming up, so the next Ellie comic won’t arrive until Thursday. But here’s a little treat: Good friend of Mission Control, Jay Fosgitt, drew a little steam-punk Ellie in my sketchbook. And since it’s my sketchbook I decided to color it and share it with all of you! See you on Halloween for a brand new comic!

I just got back from the Kent Comic Arts Festival, so I don’t have a new Ellie comic ready to go yet. Instead, enjoy a few pics from the con – my table, some commissions, and a page from my sketchbook! Ellie will be back Tuesday morning!
What a lucky day! I was checking out Facebook this morning and saw that Dinotopia author James Gurney was at Greenfield Village yesterday. Greenfield Village is a historical museum-like village built by Henry Ford and not too far from Ellie Mission Control. So I checked out Mr. Gurney’s blog to see what brought him to my part of the world. Seems he was giving a lecture at Cranbrook Institute this very evening! I bolted on over there in record time, got to meet the man himself, have my 20 year old copy of Dinotopia signed, and watched an engaging lecture. I even ran into a few other comickers ta boot – Bruce Gerlach and David Petersen!
Hi everybody! It’s been a while since I’ve been at a convention, but I’ll have a table this Saturday, October 19, at the Kent Comic Arts Fest (or KentCAF) in Kent, Ohio! I’ll have an Ellie comic sampler for sale, plus a little sketchbook featuring a lot of Ellie preliminary drawings, and new for the grown-ups – a sketchbook of burlesque drawings from the Dr. Sketchy sessions I participated in! Plus I’ll have some buttons and bookmarks and stuff. Stop by and visit! It’s the first year for what’s sure to be an awesome con!
And here’s a couple pics of some fans enjoying their Ellie comics! Guinevere & Illyria (best names EVER)!
Today’s comic is running late, so instead here is a couple of views of another native of the Jungle Oasis. This is an Indigo Wooly Wogglyjig.
Wogglyjigs live on the forest floor. Unwilling to feed themselves, they sneak up on unsuspecting diners and lick their food. Hoping that the eater will be so disgusted by the Wogglyjig’s actions, he’ll wait until dinner is tossed out. If that doesn’t happen, he’ll gobble it up as soon as he gets the chance and then he’ll run like the wind. This particular Wogglyjig is named Alonzo.
Check back Tuesday in the a.m. for the next comic!
Shortly after we posted today’s amazing comic, some of you may have been treated to this on your screens when you tried to connect to EllieOnPlanetX.com:
We managed to override the Kangaroo Rat’s hack of our website, but she messed some things up a bit and we’re scrambling to get them fixed. Rest assured, our top people are working on getting the website back up and running as soon as we can (though I’ve been informed it may take a few days). Meanwhile, check out some of our favorite online comics. We’ll be back soon!

Today’s amazing fan art is courtesy of Wouter Goedkoop, creator of the fantastic sci-fi comic The Adventures of Cpt Wayne!
Wouter’s comic is just so full of slickness and color. It makes the future look like it did back when everyone thought it would be shiny and where everything glows. And now he’s brought that same look to Ellie. Check out that cool conical skirt and the beefy treads that look like they could go anywhere!
Make sure you check out his strip for some good sci-fi fun!
You can see more of Wouter’s art in this cool “Farewell to Marooned” piece a bunch of us comickers did a while back, as well as at the Comic Creators Mini Group tumblr we both contribute to.
Thanks, Wouter!
So, I did a comic for today and I didn’t like it. So I’m doing a new one but it won’t be ready for a few days. In the meantime, here’s a panel from the one I didn’t like for you to see.
Muffin gets some love from Jules Faulkner, creator of one of my favorite webcomics, Promises Promises! It’s a hilarious strip about exercise and eating right and other things I don’t like to do, although since I started yoga I can relate. Go read it! It’s great!
And thanks, Jules!
A few weeks back the folks at Atomic Moo, the blog and webcast for all things geek, interviewed me about the goings on here at Mission Control. So check it out for some behind-the-scenes insights into Ellie on Planet X, including a few spoilers. My part starts at about the 36 minute mark, but if you listen to the whole thing, just to warn you, there’s some swearing and other adult language thrown around. Not by me, of course. I would never do that. But if you listen closely you can hear me talk with my hands.
