Ellie’s House
Things have seemingly been quiet here at Mission Control lately. I assure you, there’s plenty going on. Ellie continues to send updates on her findings from Planet X and has built herself a little laboratory to help her in her research. Made from the wreckage of her space capsule, it contains all kinds of experiments and things she’s collected. A nice little home base to work from.
Work on the Ellie On Planet X graphic novel continues. Edits to the script took longer than I thought, but it’s almost finished. Then it’s on to the drawing! I’m considering adding some colors to the art and the illustration above is a test for that idea. Let me know what you think!
UPDATE: I wanted to see what it would look like if I flipped the colors of the trees and the flowers.
And here’s the thumbnails from my sketchbook that started it all.
UPDATE II:
Just finished the script for the graphic novel. Drawing commences shortly.
I think it’s awesome, as usual. Your color work is always top notch. Really dig the oranges and purples.
you always amaze me with your art Jim. Also three moons instead of two? you are a mad man!
Oh, that house is so awesome! Beautiful drawing. Great lighting and color. And I love that organic landscape. You keep outdoing yourself even with just the pinups.
Cute little lab! Looks like unanimous Jim; everyone loves the art style.
Thanks, everybody! Our cast may get a color makeover too.
Little late to the party here, but this is fab! Love it.
Thanks, Jules! And the party didn’t even start until you got here!
As with all the other common tators – I love it.
That said, on a purely selfish note, I miss seeing our intrepid girl robot and her friends/study subjects
Thanks, Kim! I miss drawing them. But now that I’m to the drawing part of the graphic novel I’m excited to get back at it. I hope it pays off for everyone else.
Nice! It’s always great to see an update. 🙂
I like the one with the purple flowers better than the one with the green flowers.
I like the expansion of the color palette to the other secondary colors. Don’t you get carried away and use any primary colors, you might get an overload. 🙂
I like the first one better too. I think it’s because the green gets pushed back and the purple comes forward. And no more extra colors. This is it. So I say now.
(oh, yeah… pale blue doesn’t count as a primary… :)) )
I agree with Odo. Purple flowers are better.
I LIKE the ingenuity you’re forced to use because of your limited palette.
And don’t give us the old “These are the actual colors. Ellie’s sensors weren’t responding properly before” excuse!
But that’s the reason! I swear!
oh wow! i used to read this comic and never commented as i had no email, and then no computer for two or so years. now i have both and can finally say: ellie is the most original and adorable webcomics i have ever seen! and i have lots of catching up to do…
Thank you so much, Ashling! I’m hoping that the graphic novel I’m working on will really be something that everyone enjoys!
And thanks for all the comments!
Great to hear all this good news regarding your progression with the GN! As many have pointed out, your art is as mouthwatering as ever and I really love the your use of a broader colour palette on this illustration. Simply fantastic!
Thanks, Wouter! It’s still a long road ahead, but I’m getting there!
Is the comic shut down? It’s been 2-3 months since update.
On the contrary, JS! The webcomic is on hiatus, but I’m working on a proposal for a graphic novel. You can read a little more about it here: http://ellieonplanetx.com/2014/01/14/blog/lettin-the-cat-outta-the-bag/
So any updates soon? Read the comic in one day and loved it but leaving us on that cliffhanger was a bit unfair.
Thanks, Admiral! Sorry about that. It wasn’t my plan. The comic is on hiatus for the time being as I’m putting together a proposal for a graphic novel! You can read more about it here: http://ellieonplanetx.com/2014/01/14/blog/lettin-the-cat-outta-the-bag/
Very nice James! Both the original and the flipped version are great! I do like the the original a smidge better. I guess I just like purple trees! Elle looks just as cute as always and it was nice to see her smile this morning. I’m glad to hear thing are moving on the GN and I admire your work ethic. Thanks for the update!
Thanks, Don! I’m leaning more toward the first one too. And thanks for the other stuff too.
Just found this Ellie on Planet X on twitter, visit it and it seems interesting to me…. Buh, where do I begin?
Welcome, Muh! Best place to start is always the start! And check out the Extra Extra link in the menu up top for all kinds of other stuff! Thanks for coming by and have fun!
Jim
Psst. Wake up.
Hmmm? Wha? Where’s my caffeine?
