Here’s a depiction of the rocket being assembled for Ellie’s historic launch into space.

I’m here in Chicago for a day, so when visiting Tom Dell’Aringa’s backyard it seems like the right thing to do is post a little sketch of his Marooned characters. And here you go!
I hope everyone received their Ellie on Planet X holiday greeting. Now here’s an extra holiday treat. This is the card that I sent to friends and family this year. Enjoy!
I’ve posted a few times about Matt Feazell’s comic, and soon to be film, The Amazing Cynicalman. Here’s a quick sketch I did of the title character as played by the amazing, but not so cynical, Jim Mackay. Go and read!
Here’s a couple more sketches of Matt’s characters. First, it’s Loan Shark, as played by Sean Bieri.
And next it’s Spud, Ernie, and the Mayor!
Finally, we’ve got Psycho Woman, Lizard Girl, and Mr. Know-It-All.
Here’s a few Ellie related items from around about the internet.
First, although we’ve been posting Ellie’s transmissions since June of 2010, it’s really only been about a year since we made what might be called a press release. And only then due to the insistence of Tom Dell’Aringa that I do a guest comic for his wonderful sci-fi adventure Marooned. After threatening to send his fans our way it was decided that it might be best for us to clean the place up a bit.
Tom has also been beyond kind with his promoting of Ellie’s adventures. He recently donated some unused advertising space on his site for Ellie and some other comics, and even went so far as to list Ellie on Planet X among some other great comics that he can’t do without. So, thanks Tom! Ellie salutes you!
And B) The folks at Webcomic Alliance, a resource for makers of comics on the web, were kind enough to choose Ellie on Planet X as their webcomic pick of the week!
So there you go!
Hey friends of Ellie! We want to send you a special electronic Holiday card featuring a pic of our favorite Christmas tree ornament. If you’ve left a comment here, or followed Ellie’s adventures via Facebook and (now) Twitter, you’re golden! You need do nothing more. If you haven’t done any of those, now’s the time. You have until next Friday, the 23rd, 12am EST, when we send them out. Act now!
To tide you over, we’d like to share some pics of our tiny Christmas tree here at Ellie Mission Control at the Strang Institute. All manner of strange things make it on and under the tree, including the head from a Mister Bill stuffed doll that Institute mascot Bijou the dog pulled off and chewed up (I forgot to photograph that, though).
Enjoy and Happy Holidays from everyone at Mission Control!
It’s been nearly a whole year since we added the character profiles to the site, so we thought now would be a good time to update the artwork as it appears in The Mission listing in the menu bar up top. Especially seeing as our renditions of our heroes look a bit different now than they did back then. Just take a look at this strip from a year ago and compare to the art below.
One of our resolutions for the new year is to concentrate more on keeping Ellie, Jeff, and Muffin consitent looking. We’ve got a formula for drawing them the same every time and have been working to simplify their designs. So look for that coming up along with some other subtle (and maybe not-so-subtle) changes. And we’ll be cluing you all in on our plans for 2012 as well. Stay tuned!
Just some more doodles from the sketchbook. Here we have Opus the Penguin, Faith Erin Hicks’ Superhero Girl, and a Parasaurolophus colored like a Canada Goose. Enjoy!
The holidays are an awesome time of year. Especially the exchanging of gifts thing. So here’s some wonderful fan art that Zorphbert and Fred‘s Dawn Griffin did for us here at Ellie Mission Control. Go and check out her comic about a couple of aliens posing as dogs so they can study us humans all up close and personal like. And you can see the fan art we did for her too!
Who knew Ellie had all that extra hardware tucked inside?!
A new planet was discovered by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope over the weekend. This one’s a little special. It’s been named Kepler 22b by astronomers and it sits right smack inside what’s termed the Goldilocks Zone in orbit around its parent star, 600 light years away. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right for the possibility of running water and balmy 70 degree days.
Here’s a link to read more about Kepler 22b. And here’s an artist’s interpretation of another planet that falls within the habitable zone of its star:
